I believe there is a compile time config option for generating either
-Os or -O2.
Also, there's a few other config options for enabling debugging (ie.
--fomit-frame-pointer? .. I'm not sure of the exact option, but there's
several within the Kernel Hacking category.)
And, as I stated before, there have been progressively more patches
(possibly not well tested) in 2.6.29 and then even more in 2.6.30.
I've stopped upgrading my kernel @ 2.6.29-gentoo-r5Y and can't venture
into 2.6.30 else NVidia possibly is freezing Xorg.
