Just a bit.  That was a typo -- should have been 2.6.16.21-0.25-smp.

But given -- as Mike pointed out -- that the kernel version shouldn't have any 
impact on userland config files, I suspect something distribution-specific is 
going on here.  I think I'll stick with running my scripts via sudo for now 
and take another look when I get around to upgrading to Suse 10.2.
