Oh. That's funny.

So isn't there a way to tune the debug output to get
a point where things are going wrong? In fact this is
a widely used boad, and so I'm hardly the only one who
uses this hardware combination (MSI MS-6712 with VIA
KT333 Chipset) and to my knowledge this chipset is used
on many other boards too. Maybe a lot of users just don't
noticed this problems till now. (hdparm tuning,
streaming data over usb, ...)
And it sound like a very poor way out of the problem
to just replace hardware. Isn't it?
BTW: I tested the device on an other chipset-computer and it
worked without problems (like it's doing for many other, just ask
Mike). So what should be the winning about
buying an new USB-controller card?
I will do some other test with your patch at the end of the week.
