You could try swapping between each I2C support module one at a time in an
attempt to narrow down the problematic module.
Exactly which 2.6.15-rcX kernel version are you using? I may try to
reproduce the problem here tonight. I don't know if I'll be able to
however - if the problem for example is influenced by video standard
and/or tuner hardware then I might not be able to chase this directly.
