Yes, they have been helpful already.  And I didn't even have to seek them 
out; somebody there found me :-)
As for this specific issue, the new part in the device is one that the V4L 
community is already familiar with.  I have to locate and study the driver 
for it, but at this point I don't see any showstoppers.  It would be very 
very helpful to actually have one of these newer devices in hand - testing 
would go significantly faster then - but failing that Martin has agreed to 
be a long distance guinea pig for me.
